Subleasing can be versatile as both a long or short term solution. If you are subleasing your place, the main benefit (from the way we see it) is that for some reason you want to leave your lease early, and this a way for someone to fill your spot. There are benefits for both parties, and we’ve rounded up some of our favorite.
Sublessor – the individual offering their space
Sublessee – the individual who wants to take over
Benefits of Short Term Subleasing:
- Cover rent while you’re on vacation or away (sublessor)
- If you’re visiting a new area, you can meet locals by staying somewhere with roommates (sublessee)
- You know that subleasing is helping out the local of wherever you are staying (sublessee)
Benefits of Long Term Subleasing:
- You may not need to buy out your contract if you’re finding someone to take your spot (sublessor)
- You can try to sell your furniture to whoever is taking over your space (sublessor)
- Save on moving costs by buying the furniture that is already at the apartment (sublessee)
- If you’re moving somewhere with roommates, there’s a good chance there will already be common place furniture (sublessee)
- Not committed enough to sign for a full year somewhere? subleasing is like a “test run” (sublessee)
